A 54-year-old woman set herself on fire to protest the disengagement Wednesday afternoon. Her condition was reported as very serious, with about 70 percent of her body burned.
The woman is a resident of the Kedumim settlement in the northern West Bank for the past 5 years.
The event occurred at Hamazleg Junction near the western entrance to the town of Netivot in the northern Negev.
After protesting all day near the roadblock at the junction, the woman suddenly poured gasoline over her body, set herself on fire and started to run toward the roadblock. Police and soldiers at the roadblock extinguished the flames and called an ambulance.
According to a Magen David Adom paramedic who took care of the woman, she was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba by ambulance. She remained conscious the entire time, and spoke calmly with paramedics during the ambulance ride to the medical center.
At Soroka, she was placed under heavy anesthetics and was taken to the plastic surgery ward.
